Day & Night Lenses

Orthokeratology or “Ortho-K” lenses are unique contact lenses that correct myopia (short-sightedness) while you sleep. They do this by gently influencing the shape of the front surface of the eye in a controlled way. Our Ortho-K lenses are tailor made to suit your eye in order to correct your eyesight overnight, so when you wake up you can have clear vision without using contact lenses or spectacle correction during the day.

These lenses are great for those who do water and contact sports, those who are fed up with the inconvenience of spectacles/contact lens wear and those who aren’t able to take the significant step of laser eye surgery. A number of recent studies have showed that Ortho-K lenses can dramatically slow down the progression of short sightedness in children subsequently reducing the risk of myopia related problems such as retinal detachments and glaucoma in later life. This is fantastic option for children as the lenses are only worn at home and they won’t have to worry about losing their spectacles or contact lenses at school and during the day.

Major Benefits
• No contact lens related dryness during the day
• Perfect for swimming and other water sports where contact lenses may be unsuitable.
• Play contact sports without risk of losing or dislodging lenses
• Work in (air-conditioned, dry or hot) areas where contact lenses may not normally be suitable.
• None of the risks of laser surgery
• Reversible changes simply by stop wearing the lenses
• No potential problem of wearing contact lenses during the school day
• Slow down the progression of short-sightedness

Who is Ortho-K for?
• People suffering from myopia, or short-sightedness, who would like to enjoy clear corrected vision without contact lenses or spectacles during the day.
• Patients with the following prescription:
    • Spherical spectacle prescription of -5.00D. Higher prescriptions can be treated     although not as reliably.
    • Astigmatism of up to -2.00D
• Sporting or active people
• Short sighted children, to slow down the progression of myopia.
• People who aren’t suitable for refractive laser surgery

This type of contact lens correction may not be suitable for everyone, but where it does work, it is fantastic! Here at Aves we have a large range of contact lens options and we are happy to discuss them with you.
