Emergency

ou should call us immediately if you suffer a sudden loss of vision or intense pain in one eye or sudden onset of flashing lights and/or floaters in your vision. Any sudden changes in your vision should also be reported (e.g. sudden blur or double vision). Initially, you should describe the problem to a receptionist who will pass the details to an Optometrist who will decide if you need to be seen the same day.

All emergency appointments will be charged at either £60 which will cover the cost of all necessary tests and an onward referral letter where indicated

By Bus (from Ware):
Bus stop: from Hertford Regional College Stop C, take no 424 or Green Line 724 towards Harlow Bus Station. Alight at Harlow Bus Station and catch a bus that passes Princess Alexandra Hospital (check at Bus Station as service numbers change), alternatively walk from the Bus Station.

By Car (from Ware)
• Head south on A1170 via Viaduct Road and London Road
• At the roundabout take 2nd exit onto A414 towards Harlow/Chelmsford
• At the roundabout take 2nd exit on to A414 Allende Avenue
• At the roundabout take 3rd exit on to A1019/Allende Avenue/Fifth Avenue
• At the roundabout take 1st exit
• At the roundabout take 3rd exit on to Fourth Avenue
• Pass through one roundabout remaining on Fourth Avenue
• At the next roundabout take 3rd exit
• Turn left on to road and park in hospital visitor car park (parking fees apply)

Patients with an eye related emergency should report to the Hospital’s A&E department where they will be assessed and booked into the eye casualty clinic to see a doctor as appropriate.

By Bus (from Ware)
Bus stop: The Priory, High Street, take either no. 383 or 384 towards Stevenage Bus Station. Alternatively take the 390 bus from Hertford Regional College Stop via Hertford to Stevenage Bus Station (some buses on this route Mon-Fri continue to the Lister Hospital). At Stevenage Bus Station, alight at Stop A. Walk to Bus Stop N, take no. 55 or 635 towards Grange Estate (Letchworth), Southfields. Alight at Lister Hospital Stop A.

By Car (from Ware)
• Head towards Stevenage A602
• At the roundabout 3rd Exit (A602)
• At the roundabout 3rd Exit (A602)
• Continue through 7 roundabouts straight ahead
• Next roundabout 3rd exit Lytton way
• Slight left onto Hitchin road (A602)
• At the roundabout 3rd exit Coreys Mill Lane
• Take 2nd left to turn into multi storey car park (nearest to The Treatment Centre, eye casualty)
The Treatment Centre is a 3 storey large brown wooden covered building. Ask at reception for eye casualty.

By Car (please note congestion charge applies on weekdays)
• Take the A10 south into central London
• At Shoreditch, turn R Drysdale Street
• Turn L into Hoxton Street
• Turn L to stay on Hoxton Street
• Turn R Old Street (A10)
• Turn R Old Street (A5202)
• At the roundabout, 3rd exit City Road (A501)
• Moorfields is on your left.

Car park:
Paul Street NCP (7 mins walk)
Macclesfield Road NCP (7 mins walk)
Finsbury Square (10 mins walk)

By Train

Take the train from Ware to London Liverpool Street train station.

1) Change to London Underground and take the Metropolitan, Circle or Hammersmith and City line to Moorgate. Change to Northern line – 1 stop to Old Street.
• Take exit 8 towards Moorfields eye hospital.
• Follow the dark green line on the pavement to the hospital and Moorfields A&E is on your left (5 mins walk).

Or

2) Bus 135 from Stop F towards Old Street Roundabout Stop E and walk 5 mins or Bus 214 from stop C towards Highgate village. Alight Old Street roundabout and walk 5 mins down City Road. Follow the dark green line on pavement to the hospital and Moorfields A&E is on your left.
