Children

Children who are under 16 and students under the age of 19 in full time education receive an NHS funded eye examination. Our optometrists recommend that all children have Optomap Imaging done as part of their eye examinations. The NHS does not cover this modern technique but we are able to offer it for a reduced charge of £10 for Children

Eye examinations for ages 13 and under take approximately 20 minutes and children 14 or older take approximately 40 minutes.

We recommend that all children have their eyes tested before they start school, however they do not need to know how to read to have their eyes tested, we can use pictures and cartoon characters to keep them engaged and see if spectacles are required.

Certain eye conditions can only be corrected before the age of 7.

If spectacles are required, the NHS may help towards the cost with a Voucher. A qualified Dispensing Optician will help you select the correct frame for your child and take the relevant measurements. We have a large range of frames for babies to pre-schoolers all the way to teenagers.

We have close links with the local GP’s and hospitals, some of our Optometrists even work part-time at the hospitals.
