Aves Optometrists Offers Patients Cutting Edge Spectral OCT Eye Mapping.

We have invested in an exciting instrument which will help us to detect and monitor diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetes, glaucoma and many other retinal conditions.

Spectral OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography), captures a three-dimensional scan of the detailed structure of the eye. This technology is similar to ultrasound, but uses wavelengths of light rather than sound waves to distinguish between each layer of the retina.
OCT PIC2

This generates a high-definition map that provides your Optometrist with information never before available with two-dimensional imaging methods.

This quick, noninvasive, painless procedure can help detect many eye conditions before you even experience any symptoms. In combination with a digital image of the retina, it facilitates fast, more objective referrals, and
should you need to be seen by an ophthalmologist, your scan can be sent ready for your appointment.
OCT PIC3Spectral OCT is the first truly three-dimensional eye-mapping procedure, and is becoming the gold standard for the assessment and monitoring of diabetic retinopathy, as well as age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

In the case of AMD the SOCT can differentiate between wet and dry forms of the disease, again ensuring early detection, swift referral and treatment to reduce the risk of severe visual loss.

OCT PIC4The Spectral OCT mapping scan can be performed by your optometrist as part of your eye examination. It takes between 10 and 15 minutes and costs £60 in combination with digital retinal photography. Your optometrist will recommend the procedure, if you are a patient with macular degeneration, diabetes, glaucoma or another retinal condition, or have an increased risk of developing one. If you would like this three-dimensional high-definition eye map as part of your examination, please mention this when booking your appointment or during your test.
